The company Tiny Space Greenz, a vertical farming startup from Ashburton, has been chosen as a finalist for two important awards. These are the 2026 ANZ Business of the Year Awards. The categories are Excellence in Environmental Sustainability and the Emerging Business Award.

Tiny Space Greenz is the first business of its kind in the Mid Canterbury region. It grows small, nutrient packed plants called microgreens inside using vertical farming. This method uses special technology to control the environment. It needs much less water and land than traditional outdoor farms. The plants grow in stacked layers indoors, which allows for fresh local produce all year for the Canterbury community. This also means no pollution from transporting food over long distances.
